Wisteria blossoms on Nakasendo probably refers to the wisteria at Ushijima (present-day Ushijima in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture), but this is not certain. If so, however, this would be the Shingon Sect Rengein Temple grounds where wisterias, said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi (the founder of the Shingon Sect), still can be found today. The wisteria trees are 1,200 years old, and the plot is some 700 square meters in area. The trees were designated a National Natural Monument in 1928. Ishiyamadera Temple

Ishiyamadera Temple

The Ishiyama temple in Otsu city. The founder is Todaiji Ryoben. It used to be a training place of the Kegon Sect and a subtemple of Todaiji, but later it changed to the Shingon Sect. It is the 13th fudasho (a temple where amulets are distributed to pilgrims) of the 33 pilgrimages of western Japan. Also the autumn moon of Ishiyama is one of the 8 scenic spots of Omi. The Mikagedo, seen from the grounds, is shaped in a square and the roof is in thatched a single layer of cypress bark. To the right are exposed clumps of quartzite, which was worshipped as an ancient spiritual stone. To the right and left are stone towers.==Date:unknown, Place:Shiga, Photo:A. The Toshogu in Ueno is famous at present for its peony garden, but since this was built in 1980, it was not there at the time the photo was taken. The head temple of the Jodo Sect, Nishiyama Zenrinji, in the Eikandoji in the Sakyo district, Kyoto City. The lake is surrounded by trees in the spacious temple grounds and has a bridge. At the foot of the lake is a priest sitting, and in the fore a parked rickshaw.
